Sociological analysis on Child marriage

Why it's in news :- increasing child marriage during pendamic 

Relevance of syllabus :- marriage and kinship 

     When a child is married before it's legal age of marriage and maturity, it is called as the child marriage. Mainly girl children are the victims of this marriage.

Social cause of child marriage 

     The discrimination against women begins from womb and ends with tomb. The discrimination reflects in thier education, family, socio-political spheres, employment and work culture. 

1.poverty of family :- avoiding expenditure on female education and parents are too poor to pay for the girl upbringing. 

2.social insecurity :- society perception that a married woman is much safer from societal offences than an unmarried woman. 

3.gender inequality :- men control over sexuality and family honour.
         Dixon attributed the historic practice of child marriage in india to the prevalence of " clans and lineages " which gave economic and social support to newly married couples as well as pressures to produce children for strengthening and sustaining the clan. 

4.protecting chastity:- parents want thier daughters to be chaste. They though premarital sex would ruin the reputation of both daughter and family.
      Kundiyoti describes the child marriage of women as a phenomenon particular to " classic patriarchy " with the husband or her natal family responsible for protecting her honor depending on the extent to which the society practices endogamy. 

5.docility :- girls lack the capabilities to defend thiet own interest.

6.juliet :- children themselves desire love and marriage.

7.legal lag :- legal and policy making system fail - lack of feminist law making and policy making and lack of implementation of extant legal provisions and policies. 

8.trying to aviod the pressure of dowry. 
Social consequences of child marriage 

1.distrubs the institution of marriage :- children Married at the young age do not understand the responsibilities of family and lack of understanding among family members 

2.violation of fundamental rights :- girls get deprived of thier basic rights Ex: right to education and right of protection from mental or physical abuse including rape and sexual exploitation. 

3.early pregnancy health complications :- ex: risk of material mortality and higher rates of sexually transmitted infection. 

4.poor Socialization :- women of a house educated she educates her family but she is uneducated she loses on to the opportunity to educate her own children. it lead faulty socialization of children. 

5.risk of domestic slavery. Spousal violence and poor health with girls married under the age of 15. 

Causes of increase during pandemic 

1.economic pressure due to the pandemic have pushed poor parents to marry off girls early 
2.no schools safety of children particularly girls was major reason for child marriage
